Today is Pentecost Sunday, the day on which the worldwide Christian church remembers the gift of the Holy Spirit manifested on the Day of Pentecost. To mark this occasion in the church year, the Sanctuary paraments displayed are red, symbolic of the tongues of flame described in Acts 2.

For Pentecost Sunday, Wilshire employs an element of visual art called a tintinnabulum. The word derives from Latin, literally translated "to jingle." Liturgically, tintinnabulums have been employed by the Christian church as a means of illustrating the free-flowing work of the Holy Spirit. As you hear the gentle whisper of the bells, imagine the Spirit blowing into the room of meeting on the Day of Pentecost. Wilshire's tintinnabulum was created by fabric artist Shirley Cunningham, who also designed the Sanctuary paraments.
